Dr. Henri Joseph Eloi LEROY of Soignies, Hainaut, Belgium and his descendents
LEROY family from Belgium to the United States
Please let me introduce myself and explain my exact relationship to DR. HENRI LEROY. I was born SARA BRADY WOOTEN; daughter of RICHARD DOUGLAS WOOTEN and SARA MILLER PETHEL. My father was the son of FRANK McNAIR WOOTEN and ALINE BRADY WOOTEN. My grandmother, ALINE BRADY WOOTEN was the daughter of EDWARD L. BRADY and CAROLINE WILSON WOOTEN. EDWARD L. BRADY's mother and my great-great grandmother was LOUISE JULIE ALBINE LEROY BRADY;daughter of DR. HENRI LEROY and THERESE MAROUSE of Soignies, Hainaut Province, Belgium.
Since I am reseaching this family I decided to set up a website in hopes other people researching this LEROY family would be able to contact me and we could share information. My email address is jbk6397@bellsouth.net
I started researching my genealogy 8 years ago and at the time I did not know I had any ancestors from Belgium.I never realized I would find such an interesting and well known and loved human being. It has been an exciting journey and I continue to search for information on Henri's ancestors, and to date I have found the name of his parents and grandparents, but nothing about siblings, etc.. Am sure we all share in the same thoughts wanting to have known some of our wonderful and interesting ancestors, but I do feel fortunate I have found out as much as I have about this man, DR. HENRI LEROY. When I found out there was a write up about DR. LEROY's funeral I got so excited, thinking I would find out much about his immediate family, but due to the fact, woman were not allowed to attend the funeral of a man, there were just last names of his daughter's listed in his obituary and no mention of who his parents were. My research has gotten a lot more information on DR.. LEROY and I have documented all that I have found.
Thanks to a MR. GEORGE HESS of West Chester, PA ( a 3rd Great-grandson of DR. LEROY's), I have been able to obtain a few photos of some members of this family. I also got additional information on the LEROY family from Mr. HESS. I would like to pay recognition to some total strangers in Belguim who have given of their time to help me locate more information to my family;they are Ms. Francoise KOOL, Ms. Christian PIE ART and Mr. Patrick BRISON. Without their valuable contributions I would not have gained so much knowledge of the LEROY family and I want to express my sincere thanks and graditute for their help. Some of the the present day pictures were taken by Ms. Francoise KOOL, where she made a special trip to Soignies to do this for me-and I am deeply greatful for this kind gesture.
My reseach was jump started by my beloved Aunt Mary, who back in the 1940s got interested in genealogy and knowing where her Mother's grandparents came from she started writing letters to Belgium in search of some answers about the LEROY'S. Aunt Mary wrote to the American Embassy in Belgium and did get some information from them.
I have not been able to find a lot on the Internet on my LEROY family, but I never give up. I have even found a free website where I can copy and paste my genealogy file and have it translated to French so I have started posting on websites in French.
